Uncover is an independent property research platform. It is not part of the California State Controller’s Office and does not determine entitlement to property or process claims.

Our source

Records come from the California State Controller’s downloadable property records. The Controller describes a weekly Thursday update schedule. Our snapshot may lag behind the state’s updates.

What’s in a record

Records may include a property ID, owner name, reported address, holder, property type, cash and securities fields, and pending or paid claim counts. Some fields are blank or historical. One property can have multiple owner rows; adding those rows can overstate its value.

What to verify

A matching name does not prove that property is yours. A reported balance is not a promised payout. The file does not provide verified contact information, identity documents, or a complete claim history.

Verification and claims

Use California’s official search and claim service to verify a record and follow the state’s instructions. The state provides these services free of charge. Uncover does not submit claims to the state.
