Editorial policy and sources

Reviewed September 7, 2026 (UTC). Uncover publishes independent research guidance about California unclaimed property. We are not the State Controller’s Office and do not determine ownership.

What supports a guide

Official California guidance and USAGov are our starting sources. Articles link to the source for factual claims and show review notes. Search suggestions and organizational examples are Uncover guidance, not instructions issued by the state. We do not invent success rates, payout dates, statewide totals, or expert reviewers.

Dates have specific meanings

An article’s updated date records a substantive content change. The source-review date records when its cited material was checked, not when the government updated it. Source notes identify older documents or broken links encountered during review. The source notice on a search page separately describes the available dataset.

When sources conflict or change

Follow the instructions for your current official claim. Some government pages reference older documents or unavailable pages. We identify those limitations instead of treating a successful web response as evidence that a document is current. Guides have review deadlines; overdue guides display a notice until reviewed.

Corrections

Send the page URL, the disputed statement, and a supporting official source to support@uncoverfinance.com. Do not include tax IDs or identity documents. Content changes are versioned in the site repository. We do not promise a response time or claim that every future source change will be detected automatically.
