Finding unclaimed money outside California
Uncover’s California search does not cover every place an asset might be held. Use the relevant official program rather than assuming one search is nationwide.
Check other states where you have lived
USAGov recommends checking state unclaimed-property offices, including states where you previously lived. Use its directory to reach the relevant office. Requirements belong to each program; a California guide should not be treated as another state’s filing instructions.

Choose a search for the kind of asset
USAGov also points to separate tools for unpaid wages, pensions, failed banks and credit unions, savings bonds, and bankruptcy funds. No single search covers them all. Follow the official directory to the agency responsible for the asset you are investigating.

Keep each program’s records separate
Write down the program, official web address, search date, and reference number for a possible match. A property ID from one state should not be assumed to identify a record elsewhere. Keep the agency’s instructions with that record.
If you reach a site through an advertisement or unsolicited message, independently navigate to the government directory before entering sensitive information. A recognizable logo is not a substitute for checking the destination.
